Who we are
Signal Week, the Institutional Summit for Digital Assets, was formerly known as Paris Blockchain Week. Signal Week is the same event operating under a new name and forms part of Hyve Group. Accordingly, personal data previously collected in connection with Paris Blockchain Week is now held by Signal Week and is processed in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
The controller of your personal data is Signal Week, part of Hyve Group and established in France. You may contact us at events@signalweek.com.
Where a Hyve Group company, event partner or service provider determines the purposes and means of processing your personal data, that entity may act as a separate controller, in which case its own privacy policy will apply.
Personal data we collect
We may collect personal data directly from you, automatically through your use of our Services, from your employer or organisation, or from third parties such as event partners, ticketing providers, Hyve Group companies and publicly available professional sources.
The personal data we may collect includes:
- Identity and contact information, such as your name, email address, telephone number, job title, company, country, postal address and professional social media profile.
- Registration and transaction information, such as ticket type, order details, registration status, purchase history, billing address, company VAT number and payment status. Payment card information is processed directly by our payment service providers, and we do not store full payment card numbers on our systems.
- Professional information, such as your employer, role, seniority, industry, areas of interest, speaker profile and any information submitted in a speaker, sponsor, partner, media, startup or volunteer application.
- Event participation information, such as attendee profile information, event app activity, check-in and access records, badge scans and participation in sessions and side events.
- Communications and preference information, such as enquiries, feedback, survey responses, consent records, email engagement data and your marketing preferences.
- Technical and usage information, such as IP address, device and browser information, time zone, cookie identifiers, pages viewed, referring websites and other interactions with our websites, collected through cookies, log files, tags and pixels.
- Images and recordings, including photographs, video and audio recordings captured at our events.
We do not intentionally collect special categories of personal data. Where you choose to share dietary, health or accessibility requirements with us, we process that information only with your explicit consent and only to accommodate your needs at the event.
Providing the personal data necessary to register, issue your ticket and meet our legal obligations is required to enter into a contract with us, and without it we cannot process your registration. Providing personal data for marketing purposes or for optional features, such as the event app, is voluntary.
How we use personal data and our legal bases
We process personal data only where we have a lawful basis to do so under the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") and the French Data Protection Act. Depending on the circumstances, the processing may be necessary for the performance of a contract with you, for compliance with a legal obligation, for the purposes of our legitimate interests, or based on your consent.
We may use your personal data to:
- Process registrations, ticket purchases, payments and related customer service requests (performance of a contract).
- Administer and deliver Signal Week, including attendee access, accreditation, badge issuance, the event app and venue operations (performance of a contract).
- Communicate with you about your registration, ticket, event logistics and changes to our Services or policies (performance of a contract).
- Respond to enquiries and manage speaker, sponsor, partner and media applications and relationships (performance of a contract or legitimate interests).
- Comply with legal, accounting, tax, audit and record-keeping requirements (legal obligation).
- Ensure the security of our events and websites and prevent fraud, misuse and unauthorised access (legitimate interests and legal obligation).
- Improve our events, websites and Services, analyse usage and measure the performance of our campaigns (legitimate interests or, for non-essential cookies, consent).
- Send marketing communications about Signal Week and Hyve Group events, as described in Section 5 (consent, or legitimate interests where you are an existing attendee or customer and where permitted by law).
- Capture and use photographs and recordings of our events, as described in Section 6 (legitimate interests).
- Establish, exercise or defend legal claims (legitimate interests).
Where we rely on our legitimate interests, we have assessed that those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms, and you may object to such processing at any time. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before its withdrawal.
How we share personal data
Signal Week never sells your personal data in exchange for money. Certain disclosures to advertising and analytics partners through cookies, pixels and similar technologies may be treated as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal data under some privacy laws, including certain United States state laws. Such disclosures take place only with your consent where required, and where applicable you may opt out of them by contacting us at events@signalweek.com.
In the course of organising and delivering the event, and in order to provide you with a better experience, your personal data may be shared with the following categories of recipients:
- Our sponsors, exhibitors and event partners, during the course of the event and to the extent necessary for the relevant event service. Where a partner wishes to contact you for its own direct marketing purposes and applicable law requires your consent, we will obtain that consent before sharing your data for that purpose.
- Our service providers include ticketing and registration platforms, payment processors, CRM and email providers, the event app provider, website hosting and analytics providers, badge printing, production, photography and audiovisual suppliers, and hotel booking partners. These providers act on our behalf and under our instructions.
- Hyve Group companies, for administrative and customer support purposes and, subject to your marketing preferences, to inform you about relevant Hyve Group events.
- Event venues and security providers, where necessary for access control, health and safety, and the security of the event.
- Professional advisers, auditors, insurers and banks.
- Public authorities, regulators, courts or law enforcement bodies, where required by law or where necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Signal Week, our attendees or others.
- Any purchaser, investor or other party involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale of all or part of our business, in which case your personal data will remain subject to the protections set out in this Privacy Policy.
Marketing communications
We may contact you before, during and after the event with information about future editions of Signal Week, related Hyve Group events, industry content and ticket offers. Where required by applicable law, we will obtain your consent before sending you direct marketing communications by email, SMS or similar electronic means. Where permitted by law, we may send marketing communications to existing attendees and customers on the basis of our legitimate interests.
You may unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in each of our emails or by contacting us at events@signalweek.com. Unsubscribing from marketing communications will not prevent us from sending you non-marketing communications that are necessary in connection with a ticket you hold or an event for which you are registered.
When you unsubscribe, we retain your email address on a suppression list so that we can continue to respect your choice.
Event app, badge scanning and photography
If you create a profile on the Signal Week event app, your profile will be visible to other attendees if you consent. Your email address and telephone number will not be visible to other attendees unless you choose to share them, and you may edit or hide your profile at any time.
Your event badge may contain a code linked to your professional details, namely your name, job title, company and email address. If you allow a sponsor or exhibitor to scan your badge, that party will receive these details and will process them as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. You are under no obligation to allow your badge to be scanned.
Signal Week is photographed, filmed and recorded. By attending the event, you may appear in photographs, videos, livestreams or other recordings, which may be used for event reporting, publicity, promotional activities, social media and archival purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed or recorded, please inform a member of our staff or the photographer on site, and we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request. Speakers are recorded in accordance with the terms of their speaker agreement.
For security purposes, we verify the identity of attendees at entry against their registration details. Event venues may operate CCTV systems under their own policies.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies, pixels, tags and similar technologies on our websites to enable essential functionality and security, remember your preferences, understand how our websites are used, and measure and deliver advertising, including through third-party advertising and social media platforms. Where required by law, we will request your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device, and such consent is retained for a maximum of 13 months.
Non-essential analytics and marketing technologies, including tags and pixels managed through tag-management tools, are not activated before the required consent has been obtained, and we use consent-management settings, tag controls and data-minimisation practices to ensure this. You may manage your preferences at any time through our cookie consent tool or your browser settings. For more information, please see our Cookies Policy.
Data retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and in accordance with the retention periods required or permitted by applicable law. In particular:
- Ticket, registration and attendee data is retained for twenty years from your last interaction with us, for legal purposes.
- Invoices and accounting records are retained for ten years from the end of the relevant financial year, as required by the French Commercial Code.
- Marketing data is retained for three years from your last interaction with us, unless you unsubscribe earlier, in which case your email address is retained only on our suppression list.
- Dietary and accessibility information is deleted 12 months after the event.
- Technical log data is retained for twelve months.
- Photographs and recordings are retained for as long as they are used for event archival and promotional purposes.
Where data is required for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, we may retain it until the applicable limitation period has expired. When personal data is no longer required, we will delete or anonymise it.
International transfers
Signal Week is established in France, within the European Union. However, some Hyve Group companies and service providers are located outside the European Economic Area ("EEA"), including in the United Kingdom and the United States. Where we transfer personal data outside the EEA, we ensure an adequate level of protection through an adequacy decision of the European Commission, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. You may request further information about these safeguards by contacting us at events@signalweek.com.
Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure, and access to personal data is limited to persons who require it to perform their duties. However, no method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is completely secure.
Your rights
Subject to the conditions and exceptions set out in the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and obtain a copy of it.
- Request the rectification of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Request the erasure of your personal data in certain circumstances.
- Request the restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
- Receive the personal data you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, and request its transmission to another controller.
- Object at any time to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to processing for direct marketing purposes.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent to process your personal data.
- Not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing which produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.
- Give instructions regarding the retention, erasure and communication of your personal data after your death, as provided by French law.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at events@signalweek.com, specifying the right you wish to exercise. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will respond within one month of receipt of your request, which may be extended by two further months where necessary, taking into account the complexity and number of requests, in which case we will inform you of the extension.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. We would, however, appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns before you approach the supervisory authority.
Third-party websites and services
Our websites and event app may contain links to, or integrations with, third-party websites, platforms and services, including those of our partners and of social media platforms. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these third parties, and we encourage you to read the privacy policy of any third-party service before providing personal data to it.
Children
Signal Week is a professional event, and our Services are not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under the age of 18. If you believe that such an individual has provided personal data to us, please contact us at events@signalweek.com.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our Services or applicable law. The updated version will be published on our website, and where required by law, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
